Joseph Martin
Joseph Martin is a tenor and conductor based in the North West. A sought-after soloist and ensemble tenor, Joseph has performed in prestigious venues across the UK, US, Europe, and Asia with ensembles including Genesis Sixteen, Kantos Chamber Choir, Ad Solem and The Liverpool Bach Collective. He also enjoys strong connections with several North West cathedral choirs.
During his time reading music at The University of Manchester, from which he is a recent graduate, Joseph conducted The Cosmo Singers as well as Ad Solem, the university’s premier chamber choir. Joseph was also involved in the University Opera, where he was a soloist in productions of Mrs President by Victoria Bond and a manager for productions of Berlioz’s Beatrice and Benedict and Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld.
With a particular interest in Early Music, Joseph has conducted concerts celebrating the music of Sheppard, Byrd, Clemens non Papa and Lassus, to name just a few. Joseph also has experience in Historically Informed Performance, having led a performance of Bach’s ‘Actus Tragicus’ Cantata during his time at Manchester.
As a soloist, Joseph regularly performs across the North West, with recent highlights including Bach’s St.John Passion as well as several cantatas with The Liverpool Bach Collective, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes with Cantiones and Mozart’s Reqiuem with the Blackburn Chamber Choir. Upcoming engagements include Joseph’s return to The Liverpool Bach Collective for their 2025 Winter Season and a guest conductor appearance with the Chester Community Orchestra.
Alongside his position at Voces Pulchrae, Joseph is a Lay Clerk at Blackburn Cathedral and a singing tutor at Chester Cathedral.
Outside of music, Joseph is an avid film-watcher who enjoys drinking far too much coffee.
